about

As a follow-up to our original EP, "Together on a Shady Day", the original songs contained on "Music From East E" are from the band's origins in 1967-1968 in the basement and the backyard patio of Don and Doris Magnusson - Jim's dad and mom. All of the songs were written by Chad Shue and were included in all of our live performances at the time. Many of them are still being performed to warm reviews today.

Unlike "TOASD" the only original members of the band included on these songs are Chad and Rick Pritchard (*with one very notable exception). Joining Rick and Chad for this effort are Mike and Carol Noguer - with Mike playing drums on all tracks except, "The Time for Crying" and Carol adding the piano to "Baby Why Can't You See." Mike, just as before on "TOASD", was our recording engineer and all tracks* were recorded at Fresh Squeezed Studios in Olympia, Washington. Rick provides the bass guitar and harmony vocals on all tracks; with Chad providing rythm and lead guitar and lead vocal on all tracks as well as the drums and organ on "The Time for Crying" and synthesized strings on "Every Time I See Your Face."

* The 5th track on this EP is a rare bonus. "Come on Over Tonight" is a blend of an original 1967 live recording with Chad along with Shady Day founding drummer, John Snider, and bassist Mark Ewer. Ewer made the recording on a portable (handheld) reel to reel tape recorder with a small condensor mic with was taped to the mic stand to capture the total sound of the trio. The recording stayed with Mark until 2011 when he gave a copy to Chad. The original plan was to revise the song for the current configuration of the band. However, MIke had a better idea. The result is Track 5, "Come on Over Tonight"; a merging of 2 eras of Shady Day. From the raw enthusiasm of 1967, to the polished 2015 studio sound with Chad, Rick, and Mike rocking out, to Mike's closing homage to his fellow drummer, John Snider for one last drum solo as only John could do it, to Mark's closing reference to a rare sun break on a spring day in Washington as band practice was breaking up that day; we hope you enjoy the opportunity to take a listen to a piece of history that we thought only existed in our memories.
